COSTSCUSTOMER PORTAL DEVELOPMENT

How much does a customer portal cost?

A customer portal is usually as big as the integrations behind it. Answer a few questions about who works in it, what they need to do and which systems it talks to, and you'll get a reasoned estimate, not a figure from a pricing model.

What drives the price

Not how it looks, but what's behind it. These are the six things that make the difference.

Integrations with your systems

A portal shows what's in your ERP, accounting software or CRM and writes back what the customer does. How many systems there are and how good their APIs are determines a large part of the work.

Roles and permissions

One person per customer is simpler than a buyer, a finance contact and an administrator per account, or dealers who mustn't see each other's prices.

Pricing logic

If customers order, the pricing logic weighs heavily: contract prices per customer, tiers, a discount per product group or their own range.

Features with consequences

Viewing invoices is different work from ordering, paying or signing digitally. The more the customer sets in motion themselves, the more has to be tested.

Migrating data

Customers, contacts, history and documents from an old portal or from separate files. Cleaning up and migrating is often more work than expected.

Maintenance after go-live

Hosting, monitoring, security updates and integrations that keep up when your ERP or CRM changes. That belongs in the budget, not as a surprise afterwards.

From question to quote

  1. Your answers

The cost check tells us what you want built, who it is for and which parts it needs.

  2. A short call

We call you back, ask what it needs to achieve and what is already in place, and tell you if an off-the-shelf package would suit you better.

  3. A quote you can check

Scope, timeline and price on paper before anything is built. If the budget doesn't fit, we show you what to build first.

Guide

The questions we hear most often before someone has a customer portal built.

How much does it cost to build a customer portal?

It depends on what's behind it. A portal where customers log in and download their invoices and documents, with one integration with the accounting software, is a manageable project. A B2B portal where customers order at their own prices, with several colleagues per account and orders that land straight in your ERP, is a bigger project.

That's why we don't quote a figure on this page. A price from a pricing model is almost never right for custom work. With your answers from the cost check we give you a reasoned estimate, and in the quote we fix scope, timeline and price before anything is built.

Your package's module or a bespoke customer portal?

Some ERP, CRM and accounting packages have their own portal or customer area. If it does what your customers need, use it. It's cheaper and there's nothing for you to maintain. We'll say so when we see it.

A bespoke portal pays off when that module doesn't fit the way you work: data from several systems in one overview, prices agreed per customer, or an ordering or request process that runs differently for you.

What does a customer portal cost per month?

After go-live you pay for hosting and monitoring, for security updates and for keeping the integrations up to date. Add the requests from customers, which you only hear once they're working with it.

How much that is depends on the size of the portal and how often you want new features. We agree it in advance, so you know where you stand.

How to keep the cost of a portal under control

The biggest cost is work that has to be redone later. You avoid it by starting with the questions that come in most often now, with one customer group, and getting the roles and integrations right from the start.

  • Start with the questions that come back every day
  • Go live with one customer group and a few features
  • Keep your package's module where it does the job

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build a customer portal?

It depends on the integrations with your ERP, accounting software or CRM, the number of roles, the pricing logic if customers order, and what's needed after go-live. The cost check on this page lets you share that in a few minutes, and you get a reasoned estimate. In the quote we fix scope, timeline and price before anything is built.

Why isn't there a price on this page?

Because a price from a pricing model is almost always wrong for custom work. We would rather give you an estimate based on your answers, from people who have read them, than a figure that sends you in the wrong direction.

How much does a B2B portal cost?

More than a portal where customers only view invoices, because the pricing logic and the integration with your ERP weigh more. Contract prices per customer, tiers, several buyers per account and an approval step determine the work. Share it in the cost check and you'll get an estimate for your situation.

Isn't the portal module of our ERP or accounting package cheaper?

Often it is, and then that's what we recommend. If the module does what your customers need, it's quicker to get going and cheaper to maintain. A bespoke portal pays off if you want to show data from several systems or if your process doesn't fit the module.

What does customer portal maintenance cost?

That depends on the size of the portal and how often you want new features. Fixed elements are hosting, monitoring, security updates and keeping integrations up to date. We agree that in advance.

How long does it take to build a customer portal?

That depends on the integrations and the number of features. We work in two-week sprints with working screens after every sprint, and first go live with a small group of customers. The timeline is in the quote.

Who owns the portal once it's finished?

You do. The source code lives in your own repository, the environments are in your name and there is documentation, so another team can also take it on. Your data stays yours.
