What is a web application?

A web application is software that runs in the browser, with logins, a database and interactive functionality, unlike a website that mainly displays information. Think customer portals, internal dashboards and platforms where several user roles work together and data from different systems comes together. Your Tech Club develops these web applications to order, connected to existing CRM, ERP and payment systems, from Amsterdam under ISO 27001 and ISO 9001.

Built for clients including Tata Steel, M&G Investments, Digistore24, Toppers in Concert, Bar-le-Duc and Loogman

Familiar problems

These are the bottlenecks we see most often at organisations that are ready for their own web application or platform.

Spreadsheets and separate tools no longer cut it

Customer data, requests and workflows are scattered across Excel, forms and SaaS tools that aren't aligned. As the process grows, there's no central place with up-to-date data.

The existing platform is holding the business back

An outdated portal or internal system is slow to build on, integrations break with every update and new functionality takes months instead of weeks.

Customers and employees have no portal of their own

Nobody can check status, contracts or requests for themselves, so questions keep coming in by phone and email that a self-service environment would answer straight away.

The choice up front

When is a web application the right answer?

A website informs a visitor. A web application supports someone who logs in and finishes a task: reviewing a request, putting together an order, updating a case file. The moment you notice people still send an email to get something sorted after visiting your site, that's where the gap is.

That doesn't mean you should start building straight away. If the process runs fine in an existing package, buy that package. We'll tell you so when we see it. Building pays off in two places: the process that sets you apart, and the glue between systems that don't talk to each other.

  • A website informs, an application gets work done
  • If a standard package fits, that's what we advise
  • Building pays off for a distinctive process or integration work
The long-term risk

Why platforms still grind to a halt after two years

Almost every platform that grinds to a halt didn't break on the technology. It got stuck on choices made in the first few weeks that nobody dared to touch later. Hardcoded roles, integrations without error handling, and a data model built for one type of customer when you now serve three.

So we design the model first and the screens second. Who can see what, what happens when an integration is briefly down, and what if a second organisation joins in two years' time? Those questions cost an hour up front and a rebuild afterwards.

  • Data model and permissions first, screens second
  • Error handling on integrations from the start
  • Documentation and operating instructions on delivery

What it takes from you

Weeks to a working version, two hours a week of your time

The biggest risk in building a platform is waiting six months before you see what it has become. By then, changing course is expensive because everything is already tied together. That's why we deliver in short cycles, with versions you can actually use.

A first working version of a portal or dashboard is usually a matter of weeks. Not complete, but real: your own people click through it with real data and tell us what's missing. That's the moment when changing direction is still cheap.

  • First working version in weeks, with real data
  • One point of contact and around two hours a week
  • Scope and price agreed up front, from €20,000
What you get from us

A customer portal or dashboard is never finished after the first release: users, roles and integrations keep growing. This is where we make the difference.

Architecture that grows with users and data sources

A portal that starts with a hundred users and three integrations often looks very different two years later. We design data models, roles and API structure so that new modules, extra user groups and integrations can be added without rebuilding the core.

One team that builds front end, back end and integrations together

A dashboard that brings together data from four systems fails as soon as the front end, back end and integrations are developed separately. With us, it all sits with the same team: no handover between agencies, no separate supplier for the API layer.

Access control and security from the design stage, not bolted on afterwards

Customer portals and internal dashboards often contain sensitive business or customer data. We build in role-based access, SSO and separation between user groups from the very first design, in line with our ISO 27001 certification.

A functional design as the starting point

Roles, screens and the data model are fixed before the build starts, so scope and planning aren't guesswork.

A platform that's demonstrably tested

Functional, security and performance tests are standard with every delivery, in line with our ISO certifications.

Documentation for maintenance after delivery

Documentation and a transferable codebase mean your own team or Your Tech Club can keep developing the platform after delivery.

Our approach

A considered approach that validates and delivers your idea in short sprints, with your team always in the loop.

Read about our full approach
  1. 01

    Intake & functional design

We map your platform's user roles, workflows and screens: who needs to see and do what, and which existing systems (CRM, ERP, payment provider) need to connect. The result is a functional design with an order of priorities for the first release.

  2. 02

    Architecture & technical design

Before any code is written, we define the database structure, API design and permission model: how roles and permissions work, how data flows between modules and how the platform grows as users or functionality are added.

  3. 03

    Design & build in sprints

UI design and development run in parallel in two-week sprints. Every sprint delivers working screens you can review and give feedback on straight away, so we adjust early rather than at delivery.

  4. 04

    Integrations & data migration

We connect the platform to the systems already in place and migrate existing customer, product or user data. Every integration is tested on its own, so an outage at a third party never takes down the whole platform.

  5. 05

    Testing, security & acceptance

Alongside functional tests, we run security and performance tests, informed by our ISO 27001 certification, focused on peak load and sensitive user data. Your team then runs its own acceptance test with real scenarios before we go live.

  6. 06

    Go-live & hypercare

We go live in phases, often starting with a limited group of users, with monitoring on errors and load times. In the weeks that follow we stay closely involved through a hypercare period, after which we set the roadmap for further development together.

A web application is never finished at go-live

  • Monitoring & performanceWe monitor uptime, load times and API latency, and catch errors via Sentry before users report them.
  • Fixing real-world bugsRole-based access and integrations throw up edge cases as soon as real users put the platform under load. We fix those as a priority.
  • Access & securityWe patch dependencies, review user permissions per role and audit who has access to which data and functions.
  • Keeping integrations currentCRM, ERP and payment provider APIs change. We update integrations as soon as a third party changes or breaks something.
  • Growing with usageMore teams, customers or transactions call for adjusted caching, queues and infrastructure, so the platform stays fast.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a website and a web application?

A website informs, a web application gets tasks done. Users log in, work with data and carry out actions that are stored in a database, with roles and permissions that determine who can see or do what. A customer portal or dashboard is therefore always a web application; a brochure website almost never is.

How much does web application development cost?

A first working version of a portal or dashboard usually starts from €20,000 and can be delivered in 8 to 14 weeks. A platform with multiple user roles, integrations with existing systems and extensive dashboards usually costs between €60,000 and €250,000, depending on the scope.

Can a web application be connected to our existing systems?

Yes, integrations with CRM, ERP, payment providers and internal systems are a standard part of these projects. We build REST and GraphQL APIs and connect to packages such as Exact, AFAS, HubSpot or Salesforce, and to legacy systems through custom adapters where needed.

How do you stop a platform from grinding to a halt with lots of users or data?

By planning for growth from the design stage: separate layers for front end, API and database, caching where needed and monitoring that reveals bottlenecks before users notice them. That way a dashboard with thousands of records or hundreds of concurrent users stays responsive.

Who manages and maintains the web application after delivery?

That can be your own IT team, Your Tech Club, or a combination. We deliver documentation and a codebase that's easy to maintain, and we also offer ongoing maintenance, monitoring and support agreements for teams that prefer to outsource it.

Does a web application also work on mobile, or do we need a separate app?

A web application runs in the browser and we make it responsive as standard, so a portal or dashboard works well on tablet and phone without installing anything. A native app is only needed for features such as push notifications or offline use, and is a separate project.
