Digital assessment software for a university

Custom digital assessment software for a university: it handles exam-week peaks, integrates with the LMS and student information system, and protects privacy.

Digital assessment software for a university

Deliverables

  • UX/UI design
  • Web application development
  • Frontend development
  • Backend development
  • LMS and SIS integration

A university with more than 30,000 students and 2,500 lecturers runs tens of thousands of exams and tests every year. Its old assessment environment had reached its limits. Your Tech Club built custom assessment software that handles peak weeks, integrates with the LMS and complies with the GDPR.

What was the challenge?

An assessment environment that had to do five things at once:

  • Scale during peak weeks with thousands of students at the same time
  • Be secure and stable, with attention to security and privacy
  • Connect to existing systems such as the learning management system
  • Support both summative and formative assessment
Custom digital assessment software
  • Work for students, lecturers and assessment support staff alike

How does taking an exam work for students?

In an environment designed for minimal distraction. The interface works on desktop PCs and Chromebooks, supports multiple-choice, open and upload questions, and saves progress automatically.

What can lecturers do with it?

Custom digital assessment software

Put exams together, manage schedules, invigilate, analyse results and offer exam review, all from one admin environment. Psychometric analysis and plagiarism checks are built in, and roles and permissions keep it manageable.

How does it connect to existing systems?

The software is connected to the LMS and the student information system. Schedules, student lists and grades sync automatically, so lecturers never enter anything twice and students see their grade on the platform they already use.

How did the switch go?

In two phases. First an inventory and a step-by-step migration from the old environment. Before go-live, capacity was proven with performance tests and peak-load simulations with thousands of concurrent users. Then came the integration with the LMS and SIS, with training and manuals for lecturers and staff.

What can the university do now?

Run exams during exam weeks without capacity being the bottleneck, with schedules and grades that sync automatically. Flexible and remote assessment is possible in the same environment.

Frequently asked questions

Who built this assessment software?

Your Tech Club. We did the UX/UI design, the frontend and backend development, and the integration with the LMS and the student information system, including migration and training.

What did Your Tech Club build for this university?

Custom assessment software with an exam environment for students, an admin environment for lecturers with psychometric analysis and plagiarism checks, and integrations with the LMS and the student information system.

How do you keep assessment software running during exam weeks?

By testing peak load before you go live, not after. In this project, performance tests and peak-load simulations were run with thousands of concurrent users, so capacity was known before the first real exam week.

Can digital assessment be GDPR-compliant?

Yes, as long as privacy is part of the design from the start. This solution was built that way, including exam review and the handling of access requests. Your Tech Club itself is ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified.

Can assessment software integrate with our LMS?

Yes. Here it is integrated with both the LMS and the student information system, so schedules, student lists and grades sync automatically and duplicate entry disappears.

What is the difference between summative and formative assessment?

Summative assessment tests whether a student has mastered the material and counts towards the grade. Formative assessment is meant for learning and adjusting along the way. This software supports both in the same environment.
