KVK API integration

A customer spells their company name slightly differently, and someone looks up the KVK number and pastes it into the CRM. With an integration on the APIs of the KVK, the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, you pick the company from the Business Register, and the name, KVK number and address are right first time. In your form, your CRM or your ERP.

What you exchange

This is the data organisations most often let flow between systems. Which of it matters to you depends on where work is getting stuck today.

KVK number and branch number

The KVK number belongs to the business, the branch number (vestigingsnummer) to a single location. Linking accounts on KVK number prevents duplicate customers. If a customer has several branches, the branch number tells you which one you mean.

Names and trade names

The name of the business and all its trade names, in the order they were registered. Useful when a customer is known by a different name from the one in the register.

Addresses

The addresses of the main branch. On request, the Basisprofiel also returns geodata, with a BAG ID and coordinates. If an address is shielded, the API says so.

Activities and SBI codes

The SBI codes, the Dutch industry classification, with their descriptions and which one is the main activity. Use them to group customers by industry, or to check whether an applicant fits your target market.

Legal form and registration dates

The legal form, the registration date and the start and end date of the business. A private limited company, a sole trader or a foundation sometimes needs a different route in a quote or acceptance process.

Changes

With the Mutatieservice you get signals when something changes in the Business Register. A signal only contains metadata about the change; you then fetch the new data with the other APIs.

Off the shelf or custom

Not always. If an existing integration for KVK does exactly what you need, we'll tell you.

What already exists

Some software packages have a KVK lookup built in or available as an app. AFAS Profit has a Zoeken in KvK button when you create an organisation, and the HubSpot App Marketplace lists third-party apps that add KVK data to a company. Check first what your own package already does.

A built-in lookup is enough when an employee creates an account now and then. It doesn't help with a web form where customers pick their own company, an acceptance step that decides on legal form or SBI code, or keeping track of changes across your whole customer base.

That's when you build the integration on the KVK's APIs yourself. We can connect the KVK to any system, even when your package has no feature for it.

When you need custom work
  • Customers pick their company from the Business Register in your quote or sign-up form, and the KVK number goes through to your CRM.
  • You want to approve or hold an application automatically based on legal form, registration date or SBI code.
  • You want to check and deduplicate your existing customer base on KVK number, once.
  • You want to know when a customer moves, changes name or stops trading, through the Mutatieservice.
  • The KVK data has to land in several systems at once: CRM, ERP and your own platform.
How it works technically

Zoeken, Basisprofiel and more

The KVK has separate APIs. Zoeken (search) finds a registration by name, KVK number, branch number, RSIN or address and returns the KVK number. Basisprofiel, Vestigingsprofiel and Naamgeving then give you the details. Zoeken returns 10 results per page by default, up to 100.

API key and agreement

Every call carries an API key in the apikey header. For real data you request a connection in the Developer Portal and sign an agreement. According to the KVK, you have access within a few working days after the signed agreement is received. One API key may be used in several applications, as long as they stay within the same organisation.

Cost per request

You pay €6.40 per month per API key. Zoeken is free; a request to Basisprofiel, Vestigingsprofiel or Naamgeving costs €0.02. The Mutatieservice costs €1,279 per year on top of an API subscription. The APIs are exempt from VAT. These are the KVK's rates in October 2026.

Limits

You can make up to 300,000 requests per month, and no more than 100 per second. An integration that reuses stored data rarely gets close.

Test environment

The test environment needs no registration and uses a fixed test API key with a small set of fictitious data. You test the real calls against it, including a KVK number that deliberately returns an error.

AI in between

An integration moves data. In between, AI can read, sort and prepare a suggestion. Where it matters, a person decides.

Unclear matches

A company name from an email or form sometimes matches several registrations. AI can suggest the most likely one based on town, website and trade names, with its reasoning. An employee chooses; only then does the integration store the KVK number.

Industry groups from SBI codes

SBI codes are precise but hard to read. AI can translate them into the industries your sales team uses. The SBI code itself stays in the CRM, so you can always check the grouping.

Signals from the Mutatieservice

When a signal comes in, an AI step can summarise what changes for this customer file and who needs to know. Whether a contract or credit limit changes is decided by a person.

Where it goes wrong

Searching on a name alone

A short or common name matches many registrations, and Zoeken shows ten per page by default. Combine the name with a town or postcode, and let someone choose rather than automatically taking the first result.

Every request costs money

Zoeken is free, the Basisprofiel isn't. An integration that requests the Basisprofiel again on every page view pays for it every time. Store the data with a date and only request it again when you need to.

No advertising to those who opt out

The Basisprofiel indicates whether a business does not want unsolicited advertising by post or sales calls. Take that field into your CRM and let marketing lists filter on it.

Deregistered businesses

Zoeken leaves out deregistered branches by default. When you check existing customers, request inactive registrations explicitly. Otherwise a customer seems not to exist, when they have only been deregistered.

How we build an integration

  1. What goes where

Which data moves, in which direction, and which system wins when two values differ. That is written down before anything gets built. For this integration, that means: KVK number and branch number, Names and trade names, Addresses, Activities and SBI codes, Legal form and registration dates, Changes.

  2. Fields and rules

For every field, how it translates between the systems: statuses, VAT codes, general ledger accounts, item numbers. And what happens with a duplicate or a missing value. For this integration, that means: Zoeken, Basisprofiel and more, API key and agreement, Cost per request, Limits, Test environment.

  3. Testing with real cases

In a sandbox or test administration, with the exceptions you actually run into: credit notes, partial deliveries, changed customer details.

  4. Live, with logging and monitoring

Every sync is logged, and when something fails, someone gets an alert. If a vendor changes its API, we update the integration.

Who you'll talk to

No account manager. You talk to someone who builds integrations themselves, and who will tell you when a standard integration is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Does the KVK have an API?

Yes. The KVK has APIs for Zoeken, Basisprofiel, Vestigingsprofiel and Naamgeving, and the Mutatieservice for changes. You use them with an API key, after signing an agreement with the KVK. There are also open datasets, which you use for free with a public API key.

How much does the KVK API cost?

€6.40 per month per API key, plus €0.02 per request to Basisprofiel, Vestigingsprofiel or Naamgeving. Zoeken is free. The Mutatieservice costs €1,279 per year. The APIs are exempt from VAT. These are the rates on the KVK's site in October 2026.

Can I test the KVK API for free?

Yes. The test environment needs no registration and uses a test API key with fictitious data. For real data you need your own API key and a signed agreement.

How quickly do I get access to the KVK API?

According to the KVK, within a few working days after you sign up and the signed agreement is received. In the meantime you can already build and test in the test environment.

How many requests can I make to the KVK?

Up to 300,000 per month and no more than 100 per second. Store and reuse the data you fetch, and you stay well below that and pay less each month.

Have you built a KVK integration before?

Yes. For GIJBA we built a financial lease website where business owners compare cars and request a quote, with integrations with vehicle data, KVK and LFH.
