Music distribution platform for VIRPP

VIRPP is a music platform for artists and record labels. Artists use it to release their music on streaming services, share demos, enter contests and build an audience. Labels use it to find new talent. More than 250,000 users work with it, from emerging artists to big names and record labels. Your Tech Club built the platform: the marketing site, the artist platform with distribution, the demo community and contests, the label dashboard and the mobile app.

What was the problem?

The traditional route works for no one. Artists send unsolicited demos, labels can't assess the flow, and good material gets lost in the pile. The problem isn't the talent but the filtering.

On top of that, an artist needs a different place for everything that comes next: a distributor to get music onto Spotify, a network to reach labels and their own channel to build a fanbase. VIRPP brings those steps together.

One platform for an artist's whole journey

On VIRPP, an artist releases music, gets it heard by labels and fans, enters contests and tracks how it's doing. All with one account, in one place.

Releasing music on streaming services

From VIRPP, artists distribute their music to Spotify, Apple Music and more than 40 other streaming platforms. They don't need a separate distributor. Earnings are managed and paid out from the platform, so the financial side stays transparent.

The demo community

Artists upload their demos and share them with fans and other artists. Rating works with a swipe, like dating apps. That makes listening and responding easy, for fans and for labels.

Contests

Labels run contests through VIRPP. Artists submit a track for a chance to be heard by the label. The label sees the entries in its own dashboard, alongside the rest of its demos.

Community and charts

A community grows around the music. Artists and fans discover tracks, respond to each other and see in the charts which tracks are doing well on the platform.

Dashboard for record labels

Labels filter demos by location, genre and popularity, so they search with intent instead of working through an inbox in date order. Algorithms match demos to a label's style, so labels find suitable material faster. We describe the label dashboard in more detail in a separate case.

Mobile app

A React Native app where artists track their stats and receive updates on the go.

Why was this custom-built?

Because no off-the-shelf product combines distribution, a demo community, contests, a label dashboard and payouts in one coherent system. The parts share one data model. An upload, a rating, a contest entry and a payout stay linked to each other.

What has it achieved?

From one platform, artists release their music on Spotify, Apple Music and more than 40 other streaming platforms, get their demos heard and enter contests. On the label side, the dashboard has already led to new talent being discovered and signed.
