Salesforce offers two routes of its own into ChatGPT: the hosted MCP servers, which you add as an app in ChatGPT, and the Agentforce Sales app. Here's what each route does and what to arrange first.

Many salespeople already use ChatGPT for emails, preparation and notes, while the customer data sits in Salesforce. An integration brings account history, open opportunities and leads into the conversation, and puts the updates after a meeting back into Salesforce.
With the hosted MCP servers, ChatGPT works with the same permissions as the user who signs in: object permissions, field-level security and sharing rules apply here too. Whatever someone can't do in Salesforce, they can't do through ChatGPT either.

Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers are available for Enterprise Edition and above and are off by default. An admin activates them per server in Setup and creates an External Client App; its consumer key is the OAuth client ID that ChatGPT uses. There are servers for read-only access (sobject-reads), for creating and updating without deleting (sobject-mutations) and for full access (sobject-all). In ChatGPT you add the server as your own MCP app: an admin on Business, Enterprise or Edu tests it in developer mode and publishes it to the workspace.
The Agentforce Sales app is in the ChatGPT app directory. Salesforce started an open beta with it in January 2026 for customers with the Agentforce for Sales add-on or Agentforce 1 Edition. If your organisation falls outside that, the MCP route is the way.
- ChatGPT needs to work with your own objects and rules; then you build your own hosted MCP server on flows, Apex actions or Named Queries.
- You want to combine Salesforce with your ERP or accounting, for example won deals next to invoiced revenue.
- You're on an edition below Enterprise, or fall outside the Agentforce Sales app beta.
- The assistant needs to run in your own portal, with the OpenAI API and your own approval steps.
AI reads, sorts and prepares a suggestion. Where it matters, a person decides.
Preparation and follow-up
Most of the gain is around a meeting: gathering the context beforehand, suggesting the updates afterwards. The salesperson decides what goes into Salesforce.
Figures from a report
ChatGPT can make mistakes when adding up many records. Let forecast figures come from a Salesforce report and ask for links to the records.
Start read-only
Activate sobject-reads first, preferably in a sandbox. sobject-all can also delete; only switch it on if you really need it.
The user's permissions
ChatGPT works with the permissions of whoever signs in. So don't connect through a shared admin account, because then ChatGPT sees and changes everything that account can.
Write actions in ChatGPT
Full MCP support with write actions is in beta for Business, Enterprise and Edu, on the web. ChatGPT can ask for confirmation and blocks some risky actions. In Enterprise and Edu, an admin switches individual actions on or off for the app.
Data at OpenAI
What ChatGPT fetches goes to OpenAI. On Business and Enterprise, OpenAI doesn't train on your data by default and you can sign a data processing agreement. Add the processing to your records.
What goes where
Which data moves, in which direction, and which system wins when two values differ. That is written down before anything gets built. For this integration, that means: Account history and opportunities, Leads nobody has contacted yet, Stage and next step, Account plan or lead assignment.
Fields and rules
For every field, how it translates between the systems: statuses, VAT codes, general ledger accounts, item numbers. And what happens with a duplicate or a missing value. For this integration, that means: Start read-only, The user's permissions, Write actions in ChatGPT, Data at OpenAI.
Testing with real cases
In a sandbox or test administration, with the exceptions you actually run into: credit notes, partial deliveries, changed customer details.
Live, with logging and monitoring
Every sync is logged, and when something fails, someone gets an alert. If a vendor changes its API, we update the integration.

Does Salesforce have an official integration with ChatGPT?
Yes, two. You add the Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers to ChatGPT as your own MCP app. And the Agentforce Sales app is in the ChatGPT app directory; Salesforce started an open beta with it in January 2026 for customers with the Agentforce for Sales add-on or Agentforce 1 Edition.
Which Salesforce edition do I need?
The hosted MCP servers are available for Enterprise Edition and above. For the Agentforce Sales app, Salesforce named the Agentforce for Sales add-on or Agentforce 1 Edition when the beta started.
Which ChatGPT plan do I need?
For your own MCP app with write actions, ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu. There, an admin turns on developer mode and publishes the app to the workspace. On those plans OpenAI doesn't train on your data by default.
Does ChatGPT respect our sharing rules?
With the hosted MCP servers, yes. ChatGPT gets the same permissions as the user who signs in, with object permissions, field-level security and sharing rules. What a salesperson can't see in Salesforce, they can't see in ChatGPT either.
Can ChatGPT delete records in Salesforce?
Only if an admin activates a server with delete rights, such as sobject-all, and the user has those rights in Salesforce. With sobject-reads ChatGPT can only read; with sobject-mutations it can create and update.
