INTEGRATIONSSALESFORCE + CLAUDE

Connect Claude to Salesforce

An account overview for a quarterly review, the deals likely to slip, and the opportunity updated after the call. Salesforce offers its own MCP servers for this, and since September 2026 a plug-in in Claude as well. Here's what each does and what to watch out for.

The situation

Salesforce is often where sales runs, but the preparation and follow-up happen around it: in email, in Slack, in loose notes. Claude can bring account history, open opportunities and cases into one overview, and suggest what needs to change in Salesforce after a call.

Every call runs under the identity of the signed-in user. Field-level security, object permissions and sharing rules therefore apply to Claude too, and when Claude changes a record, that user's name appears in the audit trail.

What moves between them

For each item: which direction it goes, when, and why. This is the starting point; in the first conversation we fit it to your situation.

  1. 01Account history and open opportunitiesSalesforce → ClaudeBefore a customer call or quarterly review

Touchpoints, opportunities with stage and amount, recent cases and the contacts involved. Claude turns them into a short briefing.

  2. 02Pipeline and forecastSalesforce → ClaudeAt the weekly pipeline review

Coverage per stage and deals likely to slip, with the reason. In the plug-in, Claude can show this as an interactive dashboard.

  3. 03Opportunity updateClaude → SalesforceAfter a call, once approved

Next step, stage and close date. In the plug-in, Claude asks for approval for every change by default before it's written.

  4. 04Log the call and a follow-up taskClaude → SalesforceStraight after the call

Claude turns a transcript or your notes into a logged activity and a task. Claude can add new people from email or Slack as contacts on the account.

  5. 05Business logic through a flowClaude → SalesforceFor actions with their own rules

With your own hosted MCP server, you expose an existing flow or Apex action as a tool, for example a renewal or cancellation. The rules in that flow then apply to Claude as well.

Off the shelf or custom

Not always. If an existing integration for Salesforce and Claude does exactly what you need, we'll tell you.

What already exists

Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers have been generally available since April 2026 for Enterprise Edition and above. They're off by default; an admin activates each server and creates an External Client App with OAuth and PKCE. There are standard servers for read-only access (sobject-reads), for creating and updating without deleting (sobject-mutations) and for full access including deletes (sobject-all). In Claude, you add the server as a custom connector.

Since September 2026 there's also Salesforce in Claude: a plug-in from Salesforce with 37 sales skills and the Salesforce and Slack connectors. It's in beta, for organisations Salesforce admits through beta registration and with the latest Sales Cloud enterprise edition. The admin connects Salesforce once, then each salesperson signs in with their own account.

When you need custom work
  • Claude has to work with your own objects and processes; then you build your own hosted MCP server on flows, Apex actions or Named Queries.
  • You want to combine Salesforce with your ERP or accounting, for example won deals next to invoiced revenue.
  • Your organisation isn't in the beta, or uses an edition below Enterprise.
  • Claude needs to run in your own application, with the Claude API and your own approval steps.
AI in between

AI reads, sorts and prepares a suggestion. Where it matters, a person decides.

The work around a call

The strongest use is preparation and follow-up: gathering the context beforehand and suggesting the updates afterwards. The salesperson decides what goes into Salesforce.

Claude inside Salesforce

It also works the other way round. Claude is available as a model in Agentforce, through Amazon Bedrock within Salesforce's Trust Boundary. Then you work in Salesforce itself rather than in the Claude app.

What to watch

Start with read-only

Salesforce recommends starting with sobject-reads in a sandbox. sobject-all can also delete; only activate it if you really need it, and block delete tools in Claude.

The user's permissions

Claude works with the permissions of whoever signs in. So don't connect through a shared admin account, because then Claude sees and changes everything that account can.

API usage on bulk actions

A flow that handles one record per call costs a hundred calls for a hundred records. For production, Salesforce recommends a separate bulk flow.

Forecast figures and beta

Have forecast figures come from a query or report and check them in Salesforce. The plug-in and the Headless 360 server are in beta; features and terms may still change.

How we build an integration

  1. What goes where

Which data moves, in which direction, and which system wins when two values differ. That is written down before anything gets built. For this integration, that means: Account history and open opportunities, Pipeline and forecast, Opportunity update, Log the call and a follow-up task, Business logic through a flow.

  2. Fields and rules

For every field, how it translates between the systems: statuses, VAT codes, general ledger accounts, item numbers. And what happens with a duplicate or a missing value. For this integration, that means: Start with read-only, The user's permissions, API usage on bulk actions, Forecast figures and beta.

  3. Testing with real cases

In a sandbox or test administration, with the exceptions you actually run into: credit notes, partial deliveries, changed customer details.

  4. Live, with logging and monitoring

Every sync is logged, and when something fails, someone gets an alert. If a vendor changes its API, we update the integration.

No account manager. You talk to someone who builds integrations themselves, and who will tell you when a standard integration is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Does Salesforce have an official integration with Claude?

Yes, two. You connect the Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers to Claude as a custom connector. Salesforce in Claude is a plug-in with sales skills that Salesforce built together with Anthropic; it has been in beta since September 2026.

Which Salesforce edition do I need?

The hosted MCP servers are available for Enterprise Edition and above. The Salesforce in Claude beta needs the latest Sales Cloud enterprise edition, plus approval through Salesforce's beta registration.

Can Claude delete records in Salesforce?

Only if you activate a server with delete permissions, such as sobject-deletes or sobject-all, and the user has those permissions in Salesforce. With sobject-reads, Claude can only read; with sobject-mutations, it can create and update.

Does Claude respect our sharing rules?

Yes. Every tool call runs as the signed-in user, with field-level security, object permissions and sharing rules. Whatever a salesperson can't see in Salesforce, they can't see in Claude either.

Does Anthropic train on our CRM data?

Not by default on Team and Enterprise; that applies to all of Anthropic's commercial products. Anthropic does store data from the Claude apps in the US. If you have a requirement for processing in Europe, decide up front which route you'll use Claude through.
